Setting up
Akahu is New Zealand's leading Open Banking provider, backed by Westpac. This means that they give you a way to interact with your bank accounts via automation (such as this website), without giving this website access to your banking credentials.
In order to get what you need to complete the setup you will have to register with Akahu, connect your bill-paying bank account, and create a Personal App.
Registering with Akahu is pretty easy – just visit their my.akahu site and enter your email address. After confirming your email using the code or by clicking the link, you're all set.
In my.akahu open the side menu and head to ”Connections“. These are the accounts that you have given Akahu access to.
If you have already used Akahu you might see your bank is already connected. In that case – great! Skip down to creating your personal app.
Otherwise, click the ”Add“ button on the top right and proceed to log into your bank. Make sure that you select the account that you will be using to pay your bills!
Akahu offers free access to your own personal data via what are called ”Personal Apps“. Now you're signed in to my.akahu, simply open the side-menu and head to the ”Developers“ section. Follow the instructions there, and you'll soon be set up. Ensure that your Personal App has access to the account that you want to use to pay your bills. If you want, you can also turn off access to things you won't need, like transactions.
Now you've set up your app, you'll need to take note of 2 pieces of information required to get Fawcett Bills set up:
Your App Token. This is used to make sure that Akahu knows that it's your personal app trying to communicate with it. Your User Token. This is used to tell Akahu that we have permission to make payments from your bank account. After pasting these into the Fawcett Bills setup screen and confirming the bank account to pay from, you're done!
